Asin Thottumkal was born October 26, 1985. She is an Indian film actress from the state of Kerala. She is currently considered to be one of the most popular actresses in the South Indian film industry.
Family Background
Asin’s father Joseph Thottumkal is a businessman while her mother Seline is a doctor.
Education
Asin attended the Naval Public School in Cochin and later on completed her Junior College from St. Theresa’s Higher Secondary School. She has a degree in BA from St. Theresa’s College.
Modelling Career
Asin began her career as a businesswoman before entering filmdom.Asin is brand ambassador for various products such as Fairever, Tanishq, BIG 92.7 FM, Spinz , Parachute, Colgate and Mirinda. Her breakthrough in films came with Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi (Telugu) where she starred opposite Ravi Teja.
Tollywood Debut and Career Span
Making her acting debut in Sathyan Anthikkad’s Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001), Asin had her first commercial success with Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi in 2003, and won a Filmfare Award for the Best Telugu Actress for the film.
Asin’s first Tamil film was M Kumaran Son Of Mahalakshmi in 2004. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year.
Asin’s Dasavathaaram (Tamil) opposite Kamal Hassan released in 2008 and was also appreciated, though it was not a big hit. This film was to be dubbed in eight languages including Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Marathi and Hindi. Her 2005 movie Ghajini with Surya, which was released simultaneously in both Tamil and Telugu, was a mega hit in both languages.
Bollywood Beginning
Asin also stars in the film’s remake in Hindi with the same title, with Aamir Khan opposite her. The Hindi Ghajini has broken all previous box-office opening week records for Bollywood , garnering Rs 900 million worldwide until last count. Asin has shifted base to Lokhandwala, Mumbai and is currently shooting for Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s London Dreams opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. She’s also doing a film with Akshay Kumar called Patiala House.
